There is still no information on Armita's release. However, she was likely released due to the recent pardon for jailed protestors.


In late September 2022, Armita Abbasi was arrested by security forces in connection with the protests in Karaj and subsequently taken to Kachouei Prison in Karaj.


Her court hearing took place on Sunday, January 29, at the Revolutionary Court in Karaj. Shahla Orouji, her lawyer, said about the court hearing: “Armita defended herself against three charges in this session. The smallest charges currently on the table are propaganda against the regime and collusion with intention of disrupting national security.”



 

Suicide Attempt after Torture

The Baloch Activists Campaign reported on the physical and sexual torture of a 16-year-old protester named Benyamin Kouhkan and that this detained Baloch youth attempted to commit suicide in the juvenile center of Zahedan Prison due to the severity of physical, sexual, and mental torture.


According to an informed source, the Baloch Activist Campaign reports that Benyamin had told his mother in a phone call that he had been severely tortured to force him to confess.


 

“The Future of Iran’s Democracy Movement”

A number of opposition figures of the Islamic regime outside Iran have announced in a joint message on their Twitter accounts, that on Friday, February 10, they will gather at Georgetown University “to discuss the future of democracy in Iran and the Woman Life Freedom revolution.


Masih Alinejad, Nazanin Boniadi, Dr. Shirin Ebadi, Dr. Hamed Esmaeilion, Golshifteh Farahani, Ali Karimi, Abdullah Mohtadi, and Reza Pahlavi are among the figures who shared this announcement and will speak at this event moderated by Karim Sadjadpour.


Georgetown University's Institute for Women and Peace on the event: "Iran has been in the throes of nationwide anti-government protests since the September 16, 2022 killing of 22-year-old Mahsa Jina Amini for improper hijab. For the first time since the uprisings began, eight of the Iranian democracy movement’s prominent diaspora leaders will share the stage to talk about the continued viability of the movement, their common vision for Iran’s future, and how democratic change in Iran can change the world."
