A group of victims of the Khoy earthquake gathered in front of the governor’s office on Tuesday, January 31, to protest the lack of attention to the situation of those affected.
This 5.9 magnitude earthquake happened on Sunday, January 29, yet, no systematic help from the government has been provided. This is while the weather is around -3℃ in this city, and it’s supposed to reach -8℃. There are not enough tents and facilities for all people. Other Iranians are trying hard to send the necessary items to the victims.
More Sanctions
The United States Department of Commerce imposed new sanctions on seven Iranian organizations in relation to the drones shipped to Russia.
The EU also imposed sanctions on Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Corporation (HESA) on the same ground.
Australia also added Abdolrahim Moosavi, Commander-in-chief of the Islamic Republic Army, along with 15 other individuals and one organization, to their sanction list due to violation of human rights.
Update on Women’s Traveling Restrictions
Following the news about women’s restriction on traveling outside the country, Kazem Delkhosh, the spokesperson of the judiciary and legal commission, said that this was a “misunderstanding” of his statement.
After the news had international feedback, he denied this news and said, “this was all on the route of women’s freedom.” This is while he specifically mentioned that no woman is allowed to leave the country without her guardian’s permission.
More Hijab Restrictions
A new regulation in universities bans students without the “proper hijab” from enrolling in the new semester. Following this regulation, a group of students of Shahid Beheshti university in Tehran made a statement in which they refused to return to the mandatory hijab.
“You can suppress us as long as you want, but we swear to all those who died that we won’t stop fighting for freedom.” stated the students.
Meanwhile, Ebrahim Raisi, Islamic Republic’s president, says that “Hijab is a necessary part of our religion, and all women and girls are following it.”
Mohammad Mehdi Esmaeili, the minister of culture, said that the government is more invested in developing a culture of “chaste life” than ever, and hijab is one of its main aspects.
Ghobadlou’s Execution on Hold
On Wednesday, February 1st, the judiciary department stated that Mohammad Ghobadlou’s execution sentence is on hold for now. He was charged with Hiraba and people feared that his sentence would be executed at any moment. His lawyer could finally put the execution on hold.
