Sunday's Highlights: Change? Never!

Feb 13, 2023

Ali Khanmohammadi, the spokesperson of an Iranian government agency that enforces morality law, told Entekhab news: "In the case of patrolling for Hijab, newer methods are being replaced, but if someone enters the street in inappropriate conditions [clothing], who should catch them? Finally, a group should come and deal with such a person."

He also mentioned that they are working on a parliamentary plan so that the national ID card of the people who do not observe hijab "will be frozen in the system and the person will not receive services for a month."

Regarding their plans on monitoring and enforcing hijab, he pointed out:

"I have not seen any patrol cars in the city recently, but the police are active in this regard. Plan I was the issue of removing hijab in the [private] vehicles, which is being followed up, Plan II is about the malls and shopping centers, which is being implemented, Plan III is about the streets and public spaces and Plan IV is about cyberspace and social media.”

Weaponized Drones to Russia

According to the Guardian, Iran has used boats and a state-owned airline to smuggle new types of advanced long-range armed drones into Russia for use in the war against Ukraine. Sources inside Iran have revealed to the Guardian.

At least 18 of the drones were delivered to Vladimir Putin's navy after Russian officers and technicians paid a special visit to Tehran in November, where they were shown the full range of Iran's technologies.

Unlike the better-known Shahed 131 and 136 drones, which were used by Russia in kamikaze attacks against Ukrainian targets, the higher-flying drones are designed to drop bombs and return to base intact.

Islamic Republic Under Pressure

The Islamic Republic is facing pressure to make concessions to both protesters in Iran and Western countries with citizens held captive in Tehran. French-Iranian dual national, Fariba Adelkhah, was released from jail, but several other French nationals are still imprisoned.

The Islamic regime has a history of arresting foreigners and dual nationals on false and vague charges, keeping them imprisoned until a deal can be made with the western countries.

The Foreign Minister stated that a prisoner swap agreement with the US is on the table, but the situation is complicated due to recent human rights violations and the involvement of the regime in the war against Ukraine. There have also been some political prisoners released, but the number is limited.
