Gas and Electricity Crisis

With the continued decrease in temperature and snowfall in most regions of Iran and severe gas shortage, government and private offices,  schools and universities in many provinces and cities of the country, including Tehran, the capital, were closed on Sunday. Videos of the complete blackout of Tehran's highway lights have been posted on social media, and gas supply in residential areas has also been cut off for several hours or has a severe pressure drop.

The Darkness of Prisons

Leila Hosseinzadeh, a student activist who was recently released on bail, described the Adel-Abad prison situation on Twitter. Parts of her tweets:

“Most of the rooms do not have windows and ventilation. Prisoners who have been there for several years have respiratory and lung issues now.”

“Two rooms of the prisoners of murder and drug [capital] crimes are attached to the place of execution, which means that their imprisonment is tied to the continuous sound of executions.”

“If we were very lucky, we would experience moments of hot water, except for the shower in the bathroom, there was no hot water tap, and the children were washed with cold water.”

“Everything is forbidden, a few examples: cutting hair, smoking, chewing gum, caffeinated compounds, drawing shapes with a pen on the hand, opening the Quran without reading a chapter.”

“I heard this clear voice from a prison guard addressing a prisoner who was in solitary confinement: "You must go to the front door of the room in front of all the prisoners, fall at the feet of my colleague, kiss his feet, bark like a dog and say that you've eaten shit, so I can get you out of solitary confinement.""
